The deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming Osun State governorship election, Benjamin Adereti, has inaugurated a 360-member grassroots canvassing team to strengthen the party’s campaign in Odo Otin Local Government Area.
The initiative, sponsored by APC chieftain Bello Basheer, comprises 20 canvassers and four coordinators from each of the 15 wards in the council area, bringing the total campaign workforce to 360.
Speaking during the inauguration in Inisa through his representative, Sola Soladoye, Adereti urged members of the canvassing team to remain committed and disciplined in carrying out their responsibilities.
He assured residents that the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would provide inclusive and people-centred leadership if elected, adding that the grassroots mobilisation effort would play a key role in the party’s campaign strategy.
Adereti commended Basheer for establishing the canvassing initiative, describing it as a strategic platform that would strengthen the APC’s presence across Odo Otin and improve voter engagement ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
He stressed that elections are won through effective grassroots participation and encouraged the canvassers to engage all eligible voters, particularly first-time and undecided voters, with respect and dedication while promoting the party’s agenda of inclusive governance, sustainable development and improved welfare.
Earlier, Basheer explained that the BABS Canvassers initiative was created to complement the APC’s campaign by expanding its grassroots reach and increasing voter awareness across the local government area.
He called on party leaders and supporters to remain united and committed to ensuring the success of the campaign, saying collective efforts would be crucial to achieving the initiative’s objectives.
Osun voters are scheduled to elect a new governor on August 15. Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking another term, while APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, African Democratic Congress candidate and former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Dr. Najeem Salaam, and candidates of 11 other political parties are also contesting the election.
