President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of three prominent indigenes of Oyo State into the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON), with retired surveyor Moshood Akinwande named as President of the council.

The appointments, announced through a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Ibrahim Abubakar, on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, are expected to strengthen the leadership of the country’s surveying profession.

According to the appointment letter, Akinwande will serve as President of the council, while Olusoji Adeoye and Olaribigbe Shiyanbola were appointed as members representing Oyo State.

The newly constituted council is scheduled to be inaugurated on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the SGF’s Hall, Shehu Shagari Complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja.

The letter noted that the council comprises representatives from various stakeholder groups, including the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, academic institutions offering surveying programmes, the military, and other relevant bodies.

Akinwande is a retired Director in the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation and a native of Oyo town. Adeoye currently serves as the Surveyor-General of Oyo State, while Shiyanbola, an indigene of Ipapo in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, is a former Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors in Oyo State and former Secretary of the institution’s Board of Fellows.

The appointments are expected to enhance professional standards and contribute to the advancement of surveying practice and land administration across Nigeria.
