Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have rescued two people abducted by suspected kidnappers in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The rescue operation took place in the early hours of Sunday following intelligence reports on the movement of armed criminals around the Lande Jessi axis.
According to a statement shared on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, soldiers launched a search-and-rescue mission after receiving reports that gunmen had attacked Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani communities. During the raid, the assailants reportedly kidnapped two residents and carted away food supplies.
The troops successfully rescued the victims, identified as Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu, who had allegedly spent about a week in captivity before regaining their freedom.
Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Akaliro, praised the troops for their prompt response and professionalism, describing the successful operation as evidence of the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Taraba State.
Akaliro said the mission aligns with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to intensify efforts against criminal activities and restore peace across the country.
He urged the troops to remain vigilant and sustain ongoing operations to deny criminal elements the freedom to operate within their area of responsibility.
The brigade commander also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence to aid efforts in tackling insecurity.
The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families, while military operations continue in the area to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
