President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah, an Islamic spiritual pilgrimage, and pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability and continued progress.
According to a statement released by the Presidency on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the President will travel to the holy city on Thursday to observe the religious rites associated with the pilgrimage.
The visit is expected to provide Tinubu with an opportunity for spiritual reflection, devotion and prayers for the country and its citizens.
During his stay in Makkah, the President will perform the religious obligations associated with Umrah while seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria.
Before departing Abuja, Tinubu is scheduled to commission equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force for its operations. The equipment will be commissioned at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the spiritual exercise.
Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah that can be undertaken at any time of the year, unlike Hajj, which takes place during a specific period in the Islamic calendar.
