Pastor Titilayo Adewale, one of the daughters of Pa. Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, founder of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has distanced herself from a statement circulating online regarding the church, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, and the legacy of her late father.
According to her, the statement claimed she had asserted that many senior RCCG pastors were unaware that her father founded the church and that she had advocated for preserving his legacy. She, however, clarified that the statement did not originate from her, either implicitly or explicitly.
“For the record,” she stated, “Baba’s image or no image on any edifice on earth is nothing compared to making Heaven with his full face being recognized.”
Speaking on her father’s legacy, Pastor Titilayo noted that the greatest legacy is not found in buildings or institutions but in people. She explained that Pa. Akindayomi consistently believed in building lives rather than constructing buildings.
She further stated that her father never believed in acquiring wealth or earthly possessions, adding that it was difficult to convince him to own a building because he did not see its value.
“If he was unwilling to own a personal residence, how could he or any child be bothered if his name is not associated with buildings or institutions? It doesn’t add up! It doesn’t make sense that he would have desired the kind of recognition suggested by the authors or instigator of this article,” she said.
Pastor Titilayo expressed the opinion that the circulating report, and similar publications, are not really about her, her father, or the leadership of the RCCG. Rather, she believes they are designed to create unnecessary arguments, divert attention from the divine work God is doing through the church, and sow discord among believers.
She therefore urged those spreading what she described as false narratives to stop immediately and desist from further acts of misinformation. She warned that unrepentant perpetrators of evil would face the biblically assured divine judgment, adding that anyone who does not know God should surrender their life to Him today because He is merciful and tomorrow may be too late.
She concluded by praying for continued strength and support for Pastor E.A. Adeboye and his family, asking God to grant greater wisdom to the leadership of the RCCG.
Pastor Titilayo also wished the entire RCCG family across the world a successful Convention, ending her message with, “Shalom!”
