United States President Donald Trump has signed two new executive orders aimed at limiting birthright citizenship, despite a recent Supreme Court ruling affirming that the constitutional right remains protected.

Trump signed the orders during a White House ceremony on Thursday, accompanied by senior adviser Stephen Miller, who has played a key role in shaping the administration’s immigration policies.

According to the White House, one of the executive orders seeks to identify specific categories of children born to foreign nationals who would not automatically qualify for U.S. citizenship. The measure is expected to focus primarily on children born to certain foreign diplomatic personnel in the United States.

The second order targets what the administration describes as “birth tourism”—the practice of foreign nationals travelling to the United States to give birth so their children can obtain American citizenship. Republican officials have long argued that the practice is vulnerable to abuse and fraud.

Speaking after signing the orders, Trump insisted the measures were legally sound, despite the Supreme Court’s recent position on birthright citizenship. White House officials also maintained that the executive actions do not violate the court’s ruling.

The new directives are expected to trigger fresh legal challenges, with critics likely to argue that they conflict with constitutional protections under the 14th Amendment.

Further details are expected as the administration releases more information on the implementation of the executive orders.
