The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, the winner of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, announced the final result at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday.
According to the results declared by INEC, Adeleke won in 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 LGAs.
Adeleke recorded victories in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo, among others.
Oyebamiji, on the other hand, won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun local government areas.
INEC reported that 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election, while 1,005,800 votes were cast. Of the votes cast, 985,079 were valid, while 20,721 were rejected.
The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third in the election.
After the results were collated and signed by representatives of the participating political parties, the Returning Officer formally declared Adeleke elected.
Prof. Ogunwole said Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore returned as the winner of the August 15 governorship election.
The declaration secures Adeleke another term as governor of Osun State.
