Nigeria’s Super Eagles have threatened to boycott their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Algeria over unpaid winning bonuses owed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Reports from Morocco indicate that the players are refusing to travel to Marrakech for the fixture until all outstanding entitlements are settled. Sports journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel, alongside other reporters on ground, disclosed that the team has made payment of the bonuses a condition for continuing participation in the competition.

BBC journalist Olúwashínà Okeleji also confirmed the situation, stating that both players and officials are still awaiting payments. According to him, bonuses from four matches—against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Mozambique—remain unpaid.

Okeleji noted that while the squad remains focused on the tournament, it has drawn a firm line over the issue. He said the team would not train or travel to Marrakech on Thursday if the matter is not resolved.

As of the time of filing this report, SaharaReporters’ efforts to get a response from the NFF were unsuccessful. Calls and messages sent to the federation’s Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, were not returned.

This is not the first time the Super Eagles have raised concerns over unpaid entitlements. In November, the team similarly threatened to boycott a World Cup qualifier against Gabon over outstanding payments.

Another Nigerian sports journalist, Pooja, who is with the team in Morocco, corroborated the development on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that players and officials boycotted training due to unresolved payment issues, describing the situation as unfortunate.
