Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted to the recent peace meeting brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu between him and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike and Fubara have been locked in a prolonged political feud since Fubara assumed office as governor of Rivers State, a development that has continued to fuel tension within the state’s political landscape.

President Tinubu, who had previously intervened to reconcile both parties, stepped in once again amid reports that the Rivers State House of Assembly—largely perceived to be loyal to Wike—was preparing to commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Wike said the President acted as a father figure in resolving the dispute between the executive and the legislature in the state.

“If there seems to be a problem between the legislature and the governor, as a father, he had to intervene. This is the second time Mr President is intervening, and I believe by the grace of God this will be the last time,” Wike said.

He added that he had advised members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to take the necessary steps to ensure peace, while expressing confidence that Governor Fubara would also play his part to prevent a recurrence of the crisis.

“I have told the Assembly to do the needful, and I also believe the governor will carry out his part to ensure this is the final time the people of Rivers State will hear about this kind of discord,” he added.
