Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said there are indications that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, may have been killed following a coordinated strike on his compound in Tehran.

In a televised address on Saturday, Netanyahu stated that the residence of Khamenei was destroyed during what he described as a powerful and unexpected operation carried out in the heart of the Iranian capital.

“This morning, in a powerful surprise strike, the compound of the tyrant Ali Khamenei was destroyed in the heart of Tehran,” Netanyahu said. “There are many signs that this tyrant is no longer alive.”

Earlier reports indicated that the United States and Israel launched multiple strikes on targets across Iranian cities on Saturday. Explosions were reported in Tehran, with thick plumes of smoke seen rising above parts of the city.

US President Donald Trump said Washington’s objective was to eliminate what he described as imminent threats posed by Iran. In a video message shared on social media, Trump confirmed that American forces had commenced major combat operations inside Iran.

“The United States’ military began major combat operations in Iran,” he said, adding that the mission aims to destroy Iran’s missile capabilities and dismantle its missile production infrastructure.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz characterised the operation as a preventive measure intended to neutralise security threats.

The developments mark a sharp escalation in tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States, raising concerns about the possibility of a wider regional conflict.
