Residents of Ido in Oyo State have raised concerns over what they described as injustice following the reported arrest of three members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) by the police.
The development was disclosed on Thursday in a report shared by investigative journalist Seun Aribikola through his reporter, Amosun Bodunrin.
According to the report, members of the VGN in Ido alleged that a Fulani herdsmen leader identified as Babangida facilitated the arrest of their commander and two other vigilante members with the assistance of the Nigeria Police Force. The three individuals were reportedly taken into custody and transferred to Abuja.
The arrests are said to be connected to an earlier incident involving the killing of an elderly woman allegedly by Fulani herdsmen in the Ori Apata area of Ido a few weeks ago.
The vigilante group had previously protested the incident and demanded justice for the victim. Reports at the time also claimed that the herdsmen involved had engaged five lawyers, while the family of the deceased woman allegedly lacked the financial means to secure legal representation.
However, in what residents describe as a new twist, the herdsmen leader, Babangida, reportedly took steps that resulted in the arrest and detention of the three vigilante members.
Concerned residents of Ido have therefore called on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to intervene in the matter and ensure a fair investigation into the incident.
The report was originally shared by investigative journalist Seun Aribikola via his investigative platform.
