The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, has announced the indefinite suspension of Senator Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun from his chieftaincy title as Mayegun of Ogbomosoland, citing repeated acts of insubordination and disrespect toward the palace.
The decision was communicated in a letter dated March 23, 2026, and signed by the Palace Secretary, Toyin Ajamu. According to the statement, the suspension followed what the monarch described as a pattern of conduct that undermined the authority and dignity of the traditional institution.
The palace expressed concern that the senator’s behavior—both in public and private—had consistently fallen short of the expectations attached to his title. It noted that his actions showed a disregard for the customs, traditions, and sanctity of the palace, which it described as unacceptable for someone holding such a revered position.
As part of the directive, Senator Adeseun has been ordered to immediately stop presenting himself as the Mayegun of Ogbomosoland in any capacity. This includes appearances at public events, official functions, media engagements, and on social media platforms.
The palace emphasized that the suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in place indefinitely. It also called on the senator to fully comply with the directive and to refrain from any actions that could further undermine the authority of the traditional institution.
The statement concluded by stressing the importance of preserving the dignity and integrity of the palace.
