A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, , to a total of 75 years imprisonment over a N33.8 billion money laundering and fraud case.
The judgment comes just days after reports surfaced that Mamman had obtained the governorship nomination form of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
Delivering the verdict, Justice found the former minister guilty on all 12 counts filed against him by the .
The court handed Mamman seven-year prison terms on 10 of the charges, while counts four and five attracted separate sentences of three years and two years respectively.
Justice Omotosho ruled that the sentences would run consecutively, meaning the former minister would serve them one after another rather than at the same time.
The judge also stated that Mamman would not have the option of paying fines instead of serving prison time, except for count four, where he was given the option of a N10 million fine.
According to the court, the offences involved a large-scale abuse of public trust and financial misconduct.
The court further ordered the permanent forfeiture of assets linked to the former minister, including foreign currencies recovered during investigations and four luxury properties in Abuja allegedly acquired through proceeds of the illegal transactions.
Reacting to the judgment, the described the ruling as a major victory in Nigeria’s anti-corruption campaign, noting that it demonstrated that public officials could be held accountable for financial crimes.
Mamman served as Minister of Power under former President before leaving office amid investigations into alleged irregularities in the power sector.
