Desmond Elio has revealed why he is seeking a fourth consecutive term in the Lagos State House of Assembly, saying his ambition is driven by the possibility of becoming a principal officer in the legislature.
The lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I made the remarks while addressing supporters during a campaign meeting on Friday ahead of the All Progressives Congress primary election scheduled for May 21.
In a video circulating on social media, Elliot urged his supporters not to bow to pressure or intimidation from rival political camps, insisting that the constituency had already invested heavily in his political journey.
“The question is, what am I looking for in the fourth term that I am being intimidated to step down for? Don’t accept it, you have invested so much in me,” he said.
“There is a high chance that I will become a principal officer. On May 21, stand your ground, come out in large numbers to vote for me, and I will emerge victorious.”
The three-term legislator also expressed confidence in overcoming internal political opposition, citing Psalm 121 and declaring that “one with God is the majority.”
Elliot’s renewed ambition comes amid reports of growing resistance within the APC in Surulere. Some party stakeholders, including allies of , are believed to be backing former aide to Governor , Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, to challenge him for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
Earlier on Friday, the Nollywood actor publicly apologised to Gbajabiamila during an appearance on TVC’s Your View, saying any perceived disagreement between them was unintentional.
According to Elliot, he learned politics under Gbajabiamila’s mentorship and still regards him as an elder brother.
“I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” he said, adding that misunderstandings and emotions sometimes create friction in political relationships.
The apology follows tensions linked to the Lagos Assembly leadership crisis, during which Gbajabiamila disclosed that he nearly lost his position as Chief of Staff to President over allegations surrounding Elliot’s political activities during the Assembly speakership tussle.
