Suspected gunmen have attacked Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one person and abducting more than 30 others, including passengers travelling in a commercial bus.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 2:25 a.m. on Monday, throwing the community into panic and raising fresh concerns over insecurity in the area.
According to local reports, the assailants stormed the community and operated for several minutes before fleeing with their victims. One resident was said to have been killed during the invasion, while another sustained injuries.
Among those abducted were two residents of Ayegunle Bunu—a man and a woman. The remaining victims were reportedly passengers aboard a commercial bus intercepted by the attackers while passing through the community.
Witnesses said the gunmen whisked the victims away to an unknown destination without encountering resistance.
The incident has further heightened fears among residents over the growing security challenges in Kogi State, particularly along major routes linking communities near the Kogi–Kwara border.
Authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the attack as of the time of filing this report.
