The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Ibadan and District Society, has inaugurated Salome Ajayi as its 26th chairman, with a commitment to enhancing members’ welfare, promoting professional development and consolidating the achievements of previous administrations.
Ajayi was sworn in alongside the newly elected 2026/2027 executive committee during the society’s investiture ceremony held on Saturday at the Jogor Centre, Liberty Road, Ibadan.
In her inaugural address, the new chairman pledged to run an inclusive and transparent administration, unveiling a 13-point agenda focused on education and training, finance and fundraising, membership development, district projects and other strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the society.
She appealed to former chairmen, executive committee members and the general membership to support her administration in achieving its objectives.
“I cannot do this alone. I will need the wisdom of our revered past chairmen, the Board of Patrons and elders, the support and dedication of the executive members, and the energy of all our members, both old and young,” Ajayi said.
She added that the executive committee would work collectively with members to take the Ibadan and District Society to greater heights.
Speaking at the event, the 62nd President of ICAN, Hajia Queensley Segoshime, urged the new leadership to intensify membership drives, uphold the integrity of the accounting profession and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic development.
The Chairman of the occasion and Director-General of the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria, Prof. Zacharia Yaduma, commended the outgoing executive committee for its service and encouraged members to give the new administration their full support.
Yaduma expressed confidence in Ajayi’s leadership, noting that her experience and competence would strengthen transparency, accountability and professional excellence within the society.
The immediate past chairman, Funmi Omisore, highlighted the accomplishments of her administration, stating that the seven-point agenda introduced in 2025 recorded significant achievements in professional development, youth empowerment, mentorship, community service and institutional partnerships.
She attributed the successes of her tenure to the support of members, past leaders, government institutions and partner organisations.
The investiture ceremony was attended by former ICAN President Titus Soetan, serving and former council members of the institute, past district chairmen, business executives, financial experts and other stakeholders in the accounting profession.
The newly inaugurated executive committee includes Vice Chairman Oyeyemi Oyetunji, Deputy Vice Chairman Sileola Akinbowale, General Secretary Oluwafemi Popoola, Treasurer Nasir Adeniyi, Financial Secretary Olasumbo Wojuade, Technical Secretary Yisa Olona, Membership Secretary Akintunde Olabisi, Social and Welfare Secretary Yusuf Oladokun, Assistant Secretary Olanike Oladipupo, Ex-Officio members Taiwo Adesina and Akintunde Idowu, as well as SWAN Representative Adedipe Atinuje.
