The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Lekan Alabi, describing the loss as both devastating and heartbreaking.
Chief Alabi reportedly passed away on Saturday morning in Lagos at the age of 76. He was widely respected as a veteran journalist and public relations expert who served as press secretary to several former governors of Oyo State.
In a statement issued through his media aide, Chief Adeola Oloko, the monarch recalled his long-standing relationship with the late chief, noting that they both grew up in the Born Photo area of Isale-Osi, Ibadan.
Oba Ladoja described Alabi as an exceptional individual with a remarkable memory, saying he often shared vivid stories of their childhood and early years together.
The monarch also praised the late chief’s outstanding contributions to journalism and public relations, noting that he remained a passionate advocate of Ibadan’s customs, culture, and traditions throughout his lifetime.
Reflecting on their time together in the Ibadan South East Traditional Council, Ladoja said Chief Alabi was known for his punctuality, discipline, and valuable contributions to discussions on traditional and cultural matters.
Describing the late chief’s passing as a painful loss to Ibadanland, the Olubadan prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and asked God to grant strength and comfort to his family during this difficult period.
