Air Peace has cancelled its scheduled return flight from Warri to Lagos after one of its aircraft was involved in a bird strike while landing at Osubi Airport in Delta State.

The incident occurred during the aircraft’s arrival at the airport, which serves Warri and surrounding communities. Despite the bird strike, the flight crew successfully landed the aircraft safely.

Following the landing, the aircraft was withdrawn from service and handed over to Air Peace’s engineering team for detailed inspection. According to the airline, preliminary assessments indicated the need for further checks on the aircraft’s landing gear to ensure it had not sustained any damage.

In a statement issued by the airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, Air Peace explained that the aircraft was grounded in line with aviation safety regulations, leading to the cancellation of the return flight to Lagos.

“Preliminary inspections revealed the need for further checks on the landing gear, necessitating the grounding of the aircraft in accordance with established aviation safety procedures,” the statement read.

The airline stressed that safety remains its top priority, noting that bird strikes can affect critical aircraft components and require thorough inspections before operations can resume.

To ease the inconvenience caused by the cancellation, Air Peace said it has provided hotel accommodation for affected passengers in Osubi while alternative travel arrangements are being made.

The airline also apologised for the disruption and assured passengers that updates regarding rescheduled flights and other logistics would be communicated promptly.

Air Peace thanked passengers for their understanding and cooperation, reiterating its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance in all its operations.
