The Department of State Services (DSS) has ordered an investigation into the altercation that occurred at the Federal High Court in Abuja following the remand of human rights activist and publisher, , in Kuje Correctional Centre.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the agency said it had taken note of public concerns surrounding the incident, which unfolded after a court sitting on June 22, 2026.
The development comes after viral videos circulated on social media showing a tense confrontation between DSS operatives and supporters of Sowore shortly after the court ordered his remand.
The activist was remanded in custody pending the continuation of legal proceedings scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
According to the DSS, the investigation is aimed at establishing the circumstances that led to the disturbance and ensuring accountability where necessary. The agency reiterated its commitment to professionalism, the rule of law, and the protection of citizens’ rights while carrying out its statutory responsibilities.
The service also urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the judicial process to take its course, assuring that the outcome of the probe would help address concerns raised over the incident.
