The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected dust haze and thunderstorms across parts of the country from Thursday to Saturday.

In its weather outlook released on Wednesday, NiMet said slight dust haze is expected on Thursday in parts of the northern states, including Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Yelwa, Katsina, Kano, Bauchi and Gombe. Borno, Yobe, Kaduna and Taraba states are likely to experience sunny but hazy conditions throughout the period.

For the North Central region, the agency predicted generally sunny and hazy skies, with slight dust haze anticipated in parts of Nasarawa and Plateau states.

In the southern region, NiMet forecast sunny conditions with patches of cloud, alongside prospects of morning thunderstorms and light rainfall in Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Bayelsa states. Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by light rain are expected in parts of Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, Ogun, Ondo, Abia, Imo, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.

On Friday, NiMet said sunny and hazy skies will persist across the northern and North Central regions. In the South, there are chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Bayelsa, Cross River, Imo, Abia, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.

The agency added that similar conditions are expected on Saturday, with sunny and hazy weather in the North and North Central zones, while parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom may experience afternoon or evening thunderstorms with light rainfall.

NiMet cautioned that dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere and advised the public, especially people with asthma and other respiratory conditions, to take necessary precautions. It also urged motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency for effective flight planning.

Residents were encouraged to stay updated through NiMet’s official weather reports and its website.
