A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has died after she was accidentally crushed by an operational vehicle during an exercise in Abuja.
The tragic incident occurred in the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday during a “show of force” operation conducted by the Corps’ Female Strike Force, also known as the Female Squad.
A 58-second video of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, captured the moment two operational vans — one branded “Female Squad” and another marked “Female Strike Force FCT Command” — were moving in convoy.
While making a turn, the lead van, a black vehicle with red wheels, reportedly ran over one of the female officers, trapping her underneath.
The footage showed fellow NSCDC personnel and bystanders rushing to the scene. They lifted the vehicle in an attempt to free the officer before she was placed in a waiting ambulance.
Although the Corps has yet to release an official statement, its spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, confirmed the officer’s death in a telephone conversation on Saturday afternoon.
The identity of the deceased had not been disclosed as of the time of filing this report. Babawale indicated that a detailed statement would be issued to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
