US President on Tuesday welcomed to the White House, describing Britain as one of America’s closest allies despite recent tensions over the Iran conflict.

Speaking during a ceremonial reception that included a 21-gun salute, Trump emphasized the long-standing bond between both nations, noting that Americans have maintained strong ties with Britain since gaining independence 250 years ago. He reiterated the importance of the “special relationship” between the two countries, a term popularized by after World War II.

The president also commended the British military for its historic cooperation with US forces, even though he had previously criticized aspects of the UK’s defense capabilities.

The event featured a military display at the White House, with jets flying overhead as Trump, King Charles, , and looked on. Despite rainy weather, Trump joked about the “beautiful British day,” adding a light tone to the formal ceremony.

During the visit, King Charles met with senior US officials, including Vice President and Secretary of State . The leaders also inspected troops representing various branches of the US armed forces.

The visit, which spans four days, will see the British monarch address Congress—becoming the first to do so since his mother, , in 1991. In his speech, he is expected to call for unity and renewed cooperation between the two nations, particularly at a time of diplomatic strain.

Tensions have surfaced recently after Britain declined to support US military action against Iran, prompting criticism from Trump toward Prime Minister and his policies.

Security around the visit has been heightened following a recent shooting incident at a White House Correspondents’ Dinner attended by the president.

The state visit will conclude with high-level meetings and a formal dinner at the White House, as both sides seek to reinforce their historic alliance amid current global challenges.
