President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Aina is set to take over from Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second tenure as JAMB Registrar will end on July 31, 2026. The incoming registrar, who turns 40 in July, was described by the Presidency as a seasoned academic and technology expert with deep experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure and institutional reforms in the public sector.
In a statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Aina was praised for his strong academic background and professional achievements.
According to the statement, he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Aina currently serves as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. His relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service year, where he gained early exposure to the board’s admissions and data management processes.
The Presidency noted that his experience has contributed significantly to examination reforms and the optimisation of institutional systems over the years.
The statement further highlighted Aina’s membership of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
