Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior, elder brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has declared his intention to contest the Rivers State governorship election under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress.
Speaking ahead of the party’s governorship primary, Fubara described himself as a capable and experienced candidate ready to restore peace, economic growth, and political stability in the state.
He lamented what he called the decline in Rivers State’s fortunes, saying the state had lost investments, opportunities, and its pride over recent political developments.
According to him, Rivers people must rise above political and ethnic divisions to reclaim the state’s former status as the “treasure base of the nation.”
Fubara said the state was currently facing political and economic challenges, insisting that Rivers was not a “conquered state” despite the ongoing tensions.
The governorship hopeful also stressed the importance of maintaining the state’s zoning arrangement, arguing that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District should be allowed to complete its eight-year tenure in office.
To demonstrate his commitment to the rotation principle, he pledged to serve only one four-year term if elected governor.
He warned that disrupting the established political rotation could create instability and set a dangerous precedent in the state’s politics.
Fubara further claimed that political strength lies with the people rather than financial influence, expressing confidence in the support base of the Nigerian Democratic Congress across the 23 local government areas of the state.
He called on party members and supporters to participate actively in the party’s primary election and mobilise at the grassroots level.
The aspirant also appealed to another contestant he described as his “elder brother” to step down and support what he termed the people’s movement to reclaim and rebuild Rivers State.
He maintained that he remained the most suitable candidate to restore peace and drive development in the state through experience, competence, and inclusive leadership.
