The Federal Government has officially presented the promised three-bedroom houses to members of Nigeria’s Super Falcons in recognition of their triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The presentation was carried out on Tuesday in Rabat, Morocco, by officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), just hours before Nigeria’s opening match against Malawi at the 2026 WAFCON.
The NFF confirmed the development in a post on its official X account, stating that NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and the federation’s General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, formally handed over the housing rewards promised by the Federal Government.
Each player had earlier received the $100,000 cash reward announced by President Bola Tinubu following the team’s 2025 WAFCON victory. The newly presented three-bedroom apartments, located within the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Estate, complete the reward package. Members of the team’s technical crew are also expected to benefit.
President Tinubu had announced the incentives shortly after the Super Falcons secured the continental title and also conferred national honours on the players. However, the presentation of the houses was delayed for nearly a year due to administrative processes.
Speaking last week, NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko explained that the handover was intentionally scheduled to coincide with the team’s gathering in Morocco for the 2026 championship.
According to him, the players had already received the $100,000 cash rewards after all administrative procedures were completed, while presenting the house keys in Morocco would further boost the team’s morale ahead of the tournament.
The Super Falcons enter the 2026 WAFCON as defending champions and Africa’s most successful women’s national team, having won the competition a record 10 times.
Nigeria opens its campaign against tournament debutants Malawi before facing Zambia and Egypt in the remaining Group C fixtures.
The competition, taking place in Morocco from July 26 to August 16, also serves as Africa’s qualification tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The four semi-finalists will qualify automatically, while another team will have the opportunity to secure a place through the intercontinental play-offs.
