Former Kano State Governor, , on Tuesday made a notable public gesture by recognising as the Emir of Kano and Chairman of the Kano State Council of Chiefs.
The acknowledgment came during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Deputy Governor, , held at the Government House in Kano.
While delivering his address, Ganduje greeted Sanusi using his full traditional title, a move that drew loud applause from dignitaries and attendees present at the event.
The moment marked a significant shift, as it is the first time Ganduje has publicly recognised Sanusi in that capacity since their widely publicised rift.
Back in 2020, during his tenure as governor, Ganduje had removed Sanusi from the throne as Emir of Kano. However, his successor, , later reinstated Sanusi, replacing , who had been appointed by Ganduje.
Despite the reinstatement, Ado Bayero initially resisted stepping aside, amid claims that he enjoyed the backing of Ganduje and the Federal Government.
The situation evolved further after Governor Yusuf defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Subsequently, Sanusi was permitted to hold the Sallah Durbar—an event he had previously been barred from, following police intervention over violence linked to earlier celebrations.
