Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde , has assured the families of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area that his administration is fully committed to securing their safe return, saying he shares in their pain and concerns.

Makinde gave the assurance on Saturday during a visit to the affected community, where he met with relatives of the victims, traditional leaders, and residents at the open field of Ahoro Esiele LA Basic School.

Addressing the gathering, the governor acknowledged the emotional distress caused by the incident and urged the families to remain patient while security agencies continue intensified rescue operations.

“I share your grief and concerns. I understand the pain and anxiety this unfortunate incident has caused. We are doing everything humanly possible to ensure that your loved ones return safely, and by the grace of God, they will soon be reunited with their families,” he said.

Makinde disclosed that since the abduction, which reportedly occurred about two weeks ago, he has been holding security briefings twice daily and coordinating closely with relevant agencies involved in the rescue mission.

He reiterated that the state government would not relent until all abducted pupils and teachers are safely returned, stressing that “no effort will be spared” in the ongoing operation.

The governor also commended operatives of the Western Security Network, known as Amotekun, for their sacrifices in confronting criminal elements, noting that several personnel have lost their lives in the line of duty.

He maintained that regardless of any grievances raised by the abductors, the kidnapping of innocent children and teachers remains unacceptable and inhumane.

Speaking on behalf of the affected families, Professor Wole Alamu, husband of one of the abducted school principals, appealed for sustained government action to ensure their safe release.

Other relatives, including Mrs. Funmilayo Ojo and Mr. Aliu Saidi, also urged security agencies to intensify efforts and rescue the victims unharmed.

After the public meeting, the governor held a private session with the families, where he further briefed them on ongoing efforts and reassured them of the government’s commitment to bringing the victims home safely.

The visit comes amid growing concern in the area, with residents expressing hope that intensified security operations will soon lead to the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
