The Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Imam Yunus Olushina Teliat (Ayilara II), has dismissed allegations linking him to terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities, while urging authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Islamic cleric expressed deep concern over the abduction of pupils and teachers from the communities of Ahoro, Esin-Ele, and Yawota, describing the incident as painful and disturbing.

Imam Teliat said he had devoted his prayers and sermons in recent weeks to the plight of the victims and their families, noting that the incident had caused immense anguish within the affected communities.

He extended his sympathies to the families of those abducted and prayed for the safe and unconditional release of the victims.

The cleric also called on both the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to strengthen ongoing rescue operations, urging authorities to deploy every available resource to ensure the safe return of those held captive.

While commending security agencies for their efforts, he praised officers working under difficult conditions and offered prayers for their safety and success in the rescue mission.

Addressing allegations circulating on social media and some online platforms, Imam Teliat firmly denied having any connection with criminal groups, insisting that he has consistently condemned terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry throughout his years of religious leadership.

According to him, his sermons and public lectures have repeatedly emphasized justice, peace, and the sanctity of human life, while denouncing violent crimes as contrary to Islamic teachings and harmful to society.

The Chief Imam further stated that he had publicly supported strict penalties, including capital punishment where permitted by law, for individuals found guilty of kidnapping, terrorism, and other violent crimes.

Describing the allegations against him as false, malicious, and defamatory, he disclosed that his legal team had begun taking action against individuals responsible for spreading the claims.

He warned bloggers, vloggers, and social media users against linking his name to criminal activities without evidence, stressing that anyone found making or promoting such allegations would face legal consequences.

Imam Teliat concluded by praying for lasting peace and security in Nigeria and for the safe return of all victims of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping across the country.
