Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents have set fire to a primary school and a secondary school in Kautikari village, located in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, during a fresh attack on the community.
The latest incident comes amid growing security concerns in the state following the abduction of pupils from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba, who have remained missing for nearly a month.
According to security sources, the armed attackers stormed Kautikari at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, causing panic among residents.
While no deaths or injuries were reported, villagers were forced to abandon their homes and flee into nearby bushes to escape the assault.
“No casualty so far, but residents were forced to flee into the bush for safety,” a security source disclosed.
A resident of the community said the village had previously been attacked by insurgents, but public facilities and private property were not targeted during those incidents.
He expressed surprise at the destruction of the educational facilities, describing the action as unusual.
“I wonder why they set ablaze the Primary School and Day Secondary School. Such attacks are unusual,” the resident said.
The destruction of the schools has raised fresh concerns about the safety of educational institutions in Borno State, where communities continue to grapple with insurgent violence despite ongoing military operations.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the Borno State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, did not go through at the time of filing this report.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the attack or provide details on possible security measures being taken to protect residents and public infrastructure in the affected area.
