Air Peace has warned passengers to expect delays and possible flight cancellations after one of its Airbus A320 aircraft was damaged on the ground at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (MMA1) in Lagos.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the airline said the incident occurred on Tuesday night shortly after Flight P47427 arrived from Kano and passengers had safely disembarked.
According to the airline, a baggage conveyor belt vehicle operated by the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) collided with one of the aircraft’s engines, causing severe damage that left the aircraft unfit for service.

Air Peace described the aircraft as “totally unserviceable,” noting that it had been scheduled to operate several domestic flights over the coming days. As a result, the airline said its operations across the network would be affected.
The carrier warned that several flights would experience delays, while others might be cancelled, as it works to reduce the impact through fleet adjustments and aircraft redeployment.
“We sincerely apologise to our valued passengers whose travel plans may be affected by this unforeseen ground handling incident,” the airline said, adding that its operational and customer service teams are providing alternative travel options and assistance where possible.
Air Peace also stressed that passenger safety remains its top priority, stating that it is working with NAHCO and relevant aviation authorities to investigate the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
This is not the first such incident involving the two companies. In December 2025, NAHCO equipment also damaged an Air Peace aircraft.
As of the time of filing this report, NAHCO had not responded to the airline’s claims. Calls and messages sent to the company’s spokesperson, Tayo Ajakaye, were yet to receive a response.
