The Minister of Defence, Gen Christopher Musa (retd), has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government and security agencies are committed to securing the release of all kidnapped victims across the country.

Speaking on Saturday after receiving the Southern Kaduna Grand Commander Award during the 2026 Southern Kaduna Festival, Musa acknowledged the plight of citizens still being held captive by kidnappers and vowed that efforts would continue until they regain their freedom.

He said the government remained determined to rescue those in captivity, stressing that security agencies would do everything within their power to ensure their safe return.

Musa emphasized that unity among citizens was essential in the fight against insecurity, noting that collective action would strengthen efforts to combat criminal activities.

According to him, no challenge is insurmountable when communities work together and support security agencies in addressing threats to peace and stability.

The minister urged residents to provide credible and timely information to security operatives, describing intelligence sharing as a critical tool in tackling kidnapping and other security challenges.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces and other security agencies to safeguarding lives and property, protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity, and creating a secure environment for national development.

Musa noted that ongoing security operations across various parts of the country were aimed at restoring peace and fostering economic growth, adding that security remains the foundation for sustainable development.

Expressing appreciation for the award, the defence minister described the recognition from his community as particularly meaningful.

He said honours received from one’s own people carry special significance because they reflect appreciation from those who helped shape an individual’s values and journey.

Responding to questions after the event, Musa alleged that criminal groups often receive support from individuals within communities through information sharing and logistical assistance.

He called on citizens to help identify and expose such collaborators, stressing that communities must work closely with security agencies to eliminate criminal networks.

The minister also encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious activities, saying actionable intelligence would enhance efforts to curb kidnapping and other crimes.

His remarks come amid rising concerns over a wave of abductions across the country.

The assurance followed a recent appeal by , a vice principal abducted during attacks on schools in Oyo State. Alamu had appealed to President , Oyo State Governor and other Nigerians to negotiate with her captors to secure the release of herself and other victims.

The appeal came about two weeks after gunmen carried out coordinated attacks on schools in the Ogbomoso area of Oyo State, abducting pupils and teachers and raising fresh concerns about the safety of students and education workers nationwide.
