The Delta Past Student Leaders Community (DPSLC), also known as the Comrade Community, has called for the immediate resignation of Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, citing what it described as the worsening security situation across the country.

In a statement jointly signed by the group’s President, Akpotoboro Oghenemaro, and Public Relations Officer, Peter Yisah, the organisation expressed concern over the continued deterioration of national security despite ongoing government efforts.

The group argued that incidents of kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes have continued to increase in several parts of the country, leaving many Nigerians fearful for their safety. According to the DPSLC, interstate travel has become increasingly risky, while rural communities remain vulnerable to attacks by criminal groups.

The organisation also highlighted repeated attacks on schools, noting that such incidents have disrupted education and caused distress for affected families. It referenced the reported abduction of pupils and teachers during an attack in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, 2026, as an example of the growing insecurity.

The DPSLC further lamented recurring mass killings and violent raids that have displaced thousands of residents from their communities. It noted that many victims now reside in internally displaced persons camps, while numerous farmers have abandoned their farmlands due to fears of attack.

Expressing a loss of confidence in Ribadu’s leadership, the group called for his resignation and urged the Federal Government to appoint what it described as a more effective and results-driven security coordinator capable of restoring public confidence and improving national security.

“The Office of the National Security Adviser is expected to promote coordination among security agencies and deliver tangible results in protecting lives and property,” the statement said.

The group also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review the country’s security leadership, warning that persistent insecurity could affect public perception of the administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the DPSLC, security remains one of the most pressing concerns facing Nigerians, and the government must intensify efforts to address the challenge effectively. The group also raised concerns about perceived ethnic bias in the fight against insecurity and called for equal treatment of all criminal groups regardless of background.

In addition, the organisation questioned the effectiveness of intelligence gathering and surveillance operations, particularly at a time when criminal networks are increasingly using digital platforms and social media to coordinate their activities.

The DPSLC maintained that its position was driven by a desire for accountability and improved governance, stressing that national security should remain a top priority. The group concluded by urging the government to strengthen its response to terrorism, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality to ensure the protection of citizens and national stability.
