May Yul-Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has filed a ₦1.5 billion lawsuit before the Lagos State High Court against Yinka Omolola Theisen, her former lawyer Emeka Ugwuonye, and several unidentified social media users over alleged cyberbullying, defamation, and online harassment.
According to court documents, May is asking the court to order the removal of social media accounts and posts she claims were used to defame her and damage her reputation. She is also seeking an order directing social media platforms to release information that could help identify anonymous account operators allegedly involved in the campaign against her.
In a 126-paragraph affidavit supporting the suit, May alleged that she has endured persistent online attacks over the past several years by the defendants, as well as operators of various blogs and Facebook pages.
She claimed the publications contained false allegations, manipulated photographs, insulting caricatures, AI-generated images, death wishes, and other offensive materials allegedly designed to ridicule her and tarnish her public image.
The claimant further stated that despite issuing legal notices to some of the defendants in 2025 demanding the removal of the disputed publications, the alleged attacks continued, with new social media pages reportedly created to sustain the campaign.
May also accused one of the defendants, identified as her former lawyer, of breaching client confidentiality by allegedly disclosing private information shared during the course of legal representation and publishing what she described as defamatory and misleading content.
As part of the suit, May is seeking ₦1 billion in damages from Emeka Ugwuonye and ₦500 million from Yinka Omolola Theisen. She is also requesting court orders compelling social media platforms to identify and disclose details of anonymous account holders allegedly responsible for the online attacks.
Justice Abdul-Raheem Tejumade Muyideen has directed that the court processes be served on the defendants through all known communication channels. The case was adjourned for a report on the service of the court documents.
