Prominent activist has resigned from the (ADC) and joined the (NDC), while also announcing her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Yesufu made the announcement on Wednesday via a statement shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account, citing a “deeper understanding” of Nigeria’s future and reaffirming her political alignment with former presidential candidate .
According to her, the coming days will be critical in shaping the country’s direction, and her decision to switch parties reflects her commitment to a vision of a better Nigeria. She noted that her earlier support for Obi influenced her decision to join the ADC, and her move to the NDC is a continuation of that commitment.
“Yes, when I give my word, I keep it. My support for Peter Obi led me to the ADC, and to honour that promise, I am now joining the NDC,” she stated.
Beyond her defection, Yesufu revealed that she will contest for the FCT senatorial seat under the NDC platform, marking her formal entry into electoral politics.
She added that she exited the ADC after completing her responsibilities within the party, describing her transition as smooth and respectful. Yesufu expressed gratitude to party members, highlighting her experience serving in various roles, including sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary.
Describing her time in the ADC as “invaluable,” she thanked colleagues for their collaboration and shared commitment to national development.
Her defection comes amid ongoing shifts within Nigeria’s opposition landscape, following recent moves by and former Kano State Governor to the NDC, a development that has triggered a wave of exits from the ADC.
